Welcome to Smashing DNA!

Smashing DNA is an initiative to expose deeply technological people to the Bio-Engineering world.

It started with a group of 20 eager engineers. Through the amazing work of Gita Reinitz, Gadi Rotenberg & Uri Shaked, it became a deep and thorough crash course into the fascinating world of Biology.

This wiki holds all the material created and curated throughout the course. You'll find complete Class Videos, Homework Assignments, Wet Exercises, and LOTS of external references to self-study material. Please do not copy, share or publish materials from this wiki without asking Gadi and Uri first.

Applications to Smashing DNA 4 will be open shortly after Sep 2022. Smashing DNA 4 will take a different turn and approach to optimize on the attendees time while preserving the value and you will gain access to our exclusive community of Smashing DNA alumni.

If you wish to apply please review the prerequisite materials.

To help you navigate this journey, we've created this Self Study Guide to get started.

Course Material

Why

Why should you be interested in Biology?

A couple of reasons for starters:

DNA is life's 0's and 1's, and there is still so much unknown. It's a Blue Ocean out there. The possibilities are endless.
Who wants to live forever??? Longevity researchers do :) About 25% of the variation in human life span is determined by genetics.
After completing this course, you will understand the different Covid19 vaccines, how they work, and possibly discover the next one ;-)

After completing this course, you will be able to participate in meaningful biological conversations. You will know enough to bring from your own world to the problem-solving space in Biology.

Whether you are coming from software, hardware, research, or other areas, we hope to foster synergy and cooperation amongst the different fields.

Acknowledgment

Smashing DNA would not have come to be without the sheer hard work of Gita Reinitz, Gadi Rotenberg & Uri Shaked, who have devoted their time to make it a reality. Together the three raised an academy-level course, led a class of 25 people, arranged dozens of meetups, and did it all with a huge smile.

We also want to thank all the wonderful lecturers who took from their day to come, share their story and endow their love to Biology.

And finally, credit due - to the thousands of brilliant minds throughout history, who uncovered life's deepest secrets through research, perseverance, and incredible ingenuity. They made the field of Biology what it is today, helping us look deeper than ever imagined into our very selves.

And we're just getting started ;-)
